Rate: £28.31ph per hour Umbrella Co Basis – Inside IR35

Hours: 36 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 9am – 5pm.

The role as Scientist is to undertake a practical role with possible supervisory responsibilities within the Microbiology- Speciality Biopharma laboratory.

Play a key role in ensuring that projects are performed and supervised effectively and accurately within agreed timescales and to appropriate quality standards. 

This role focuses on routine and investigative analyses of products and potential method development and validations using techniques such as Bioburdens, Total Viable Aerobic Count, Endotoxins, Environmental Monitoring and  more as required . 

Supervise and train junior members of the team as required. Client contact and administrative support for laboratory management.

1. Provide high quality customer service at all times by ensuring effective organisation of assigned workload, integrity of analytical data generated and timely/accurate provision of results.
2. Performuing data review of junior staff’s analyses.
3. Perform a range of routine and investigative analysis using (enter techniques) independently and provide interpretation of results generated as required
4. Perform method development, transfers and design validation protocols with support.
5. Responsible for the maintenance of the instrument and lab systems including checking and approving supplier’s reports (qualifications, repairs and preventative reports).
6. Assist with technical aspects for client proposals for method development, transfers and validation protocols
7. Be superuser in the use of equipment software , proficient at setting up reports and troubleshooting
8. Provide training and supervise junior staff in routine activities and methods.
9. Will be expected to work in different laboratories if the demand is required.

Communication & Influence

1. To liaise with clients, business development and line management to ensure effective communication of project proposals and results.
2. Participate in client and stake holder meetings as required
3. Deliver presentations to technical stakeholders and clients as required
4. Manage small projects or defined areas of larger projects

Leadership and supervision

1. Plan own workload and plan routine projects for junior staff
2. Train junior members of the team in routine methods
3. Where appropriate, line management of junior staff.

1. Work to the highest standards of safety and quality by ensuring that appropriate COSHHs, risk assessments and SOPs are understood and followed.
2. To complete assigned quality actions in a timely manner
3. Assist with the documentation of SOPs for simple equipment and tests and generation of Risk Assessments and COSHH
4.  To maintain a clean, tidy and safe working environment.
5. To understand and work to the requirements of GMP and UKAS.
6. Ensure training records are accurate.

Education

• Educated to Degree or PhD in a relevant scientific discipline or equivalent relevant experience in a laboratory.
• Good understanding of (include specifics) lab equipment
• Scientific understanding and ability to independently conduct chemical analysis in relevant area
